Upgrading from my current build, changing the CPU, RAM and MoBo.

So, the new build will have:

EVGA nForce 680i SLi (s 775) (upgrade)
Core 2 Duo E6600 (upgrade)
Geil 4GB (4x1GB) PC8500CS 1066MHz Black Dragon (upgrade)
BFG GeForce 8800GTX (current)
X-Fi 'Fatal1ty' (current)
Hiper Type-R 580W (current)

Component-wise, I see no issues myself - however, reckon the PSU will be man enough to handle that lot? Also, any issues other people know of, please let me know.

I'll be using it for a dualboot between XP and Vista, and I know about XP's inability to recognise a full 4GB of RAM due to pagefile.

Cheers.

Looks fine :) You may want to hold on a bit.. Intel prices are about to be considerably price dropped according to the press. That said, they are cheap enough anyway so go for it. 4GB might be an overkill at the moment and I think XP might have a problem with that iirc.

By they way, Since you've bought overclocking RAM, you might want to add a decent CPU cooler to the list.

August? Forgot to mention it :p

XP can't fully see all 4GB, as it's max (including pagefile) is 4096MB - if you've got a pagefile, it can't see all your RAM, despite the BIOS seeing it. I know about that one ;)

Already got a Zalman CPNS9500 sitting on my CPU atm, pretty sure I've got the bits for the 775 socket in a box somewhere, but I'll check anyway, just to be safe.

As for the PSU, that does sound quite worrying. Touch wood, nothing happened yet - it'll have to last till August. Any suggestions for what to replace it with for my upgrade?

Ah crap. My mate is getting the following off me when my new mother board finally gets here:

A8N32-SLI Deluxe
Opteron 175
2 GB DDR

He'll be using on-board sound and a passively cooled 7600. I ordered the Type R 580 for him. Should he return it?

your spec is great... and get the corsair hx 620w and you will have a top spec :)

Good choice on the mobo/cpu combo as I own the same and they are great... haven't tried the ram but would like to know how it performs :)
