I have a 3~ year old Dell Dimension 5100 with the following specs:

3.2 Ghz Pentium 4
2x512MB PC-3200 Ram
Geforce 6800 vanilla
i945G/GZ mobo
305W power supply

I want to upgrade it so that I can play Warhammer Online at a decent pace. Currently I get 10-20 fps at min settings. I have £200 to spend.

I was wondering if replacing the ram with 2GB @ 800mhz and the GFX card with an ATI 4850 or Geforce 9800 GTX would be possible or is the processor/psu going to hold me back?

My mobo supports pci express x16 and the supported ram is apparantly DDR2 400 / 533 / 667 but i presume 800mhz will be downscaled to work with this?

Also, I see a lot of the current gfx cards require a 6 pin connection to the power supply but I can't see one of these in my case.

Thanks.

Definately upgrade the RAM and GFX card. Assuming you dont overclock, you should be OK with the PSU, but that would be the next upgrade after this.

If you cant support 800MHz then there is no point paying extra to get it - it will only run at 667. So, just get 2GB of 667. Do you know how many RAM slots youve got (2 or 4?)

I have 4 ram slots, crucial website scanned my PC and while its recommending me to use 667 it says i can use anything up to Pc8500 (with a max of 4GB). As for paying extra, 667/800 costs the same price anyways, £30 for 2GB. I intend to upgrade my mobo/case/CPU in 2-3 months which is why I want to buy a good gfx card/ram now as it will be good for the overall new pc.

So Corsair 650W PSU + ATI 4850 + 2GB PC6400 for £205 seems like the way to go ?
