My friend is thinking of upgrading his system, which includes a Core2Duo 2.33Ghz, 3GB DDR2 RAM and a farely new GTX550ti and 600W power supply. He has a budget of £275. Any suggestions on a RAM, Motherboard and CPU that will be worth buying.
Thanks

If he is willing to wait a few weeks Intel are launching new socket 1150 CPUs (Haswell), it may be worth waiting for that.

What is he using the system for?

What 600W PSU does he have?

He will be using this system for gaming. The power supply is an iTek 600W power supply, bought at a local computer store, not sure about its reliability.

Edit: He is not that willing on waiting for Haswell. PSU Manufacturer's website(does not sell from website, not a competitor)

If you want something with an upgrade path.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i3-3220 3.30GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail £92.99
1 x Gigabyte Z77-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £89.99
1 x Corsair XMS3 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-16000C9 2000MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMX8GX3M2A2000C9) £53.99
Total : £248.36 (includes shipping : £9.50).

The i3 can be swapped out for an overclockable i5 / i7 later.

Or better performance now but a poor upgrade path.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i5-3330 3.00GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail £143.99
1 x Gigabyte B75M-D3H Intel B75 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Micro ATX Motherboard £64.99
1 x Corsair XMS3 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-16000C9 2000MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMX8GX3M2A2000C9) £53.99
Total : £274.37 (includes shipping : £9.50).

Oh and I would not use that PSU, it looks to be far to cheap to be much good. Replace it with one from a know quality brand such as XFX, Corsair, Seasonic etc.

My friend has chosen to spend a bit more than his budget and buy the i5 with the motherboard from your first build.
Now he is to see about the PSU.

Tks for the help firefly!
