Hey folks,

At the moment I have a pretty old Pentium D 940 w/ 2GB DDR400 RAM and a Radeon 3850 AGP. Over the years I've effectively capped out my computer and now it's time for a big system-wide upgrade.

I already have:
- A perfectly fine case with plenty of cooling
- 2 DVD-RW drives
- A 1400X900 screen

Anyway, here's my list so far of what I'm looking into buying:

I'm not planning to go over £500, but it would be nice to get cooling on top of something like this so I can attempt to unlock the 550 for 4 cores (which apparently is possible?).

Usage would be for a wide range of activities ranging from CPU heavy (e.g. Dwarf Fortress :p) to GPU heavy (Gaming) work.

I've never built a computer from the motherboard up before, so would I need anything else - eg cables?

Thanks for the help;

- Huw
