Hello,
Not sure where this one should go. Whenever I transfer files from a hard drive to a USB stick the PC is so slow it is almost unusable, anyone any idea as to what could cause this or how I can get to the bottom of it, it didn’t used to happen but after my latest re-format (new SSD) it does?

Advice appreciated.

Yep PC is fully up to date, I don’t think there is a problem with the USB speed, it’s the fact the PC in general (opening IE / Outlook) is so slow, in fact whatever I try and open does not respond for 30seconds or so and then response it terrible.

AMD 955
4GB
880G Motherboard
C300 SSD

Cheers

What USB stick is it (make/size)?

I have a similar problem with a new SanDisk 32GB Cruzer Blade.
The PC virtually grinds to a halt when copying anything over to it, transfer speeds can be six times slower than my other USB pen drives!:(

I did think it happened on all USB drives (I'll check), I don't think it's due to the SSD as everything else is fine (SSD performance etc - the c300 had a major update before i bought it 6months ago)

Cheers

is the ssd set up in AHCI mode? Did you format using windows 7 during install so it should have set the block alignment correctly? You're using the inbuilt intel sata port rather than the jmicron one which is loads slower?

I know the SSD is in AHCI mode and I know it performs as it should according to speed tests. Performance is great, other than when files are transferring to a USB, files Hard drive to hard drive are transferred with no problems at all (~70mb).
Thanks for the suggestion, I can’t find any information about my problem…

ok, then onto the usb ports...remove the usb port drivers using device manager and reboot. Hopefully it will then re-install them and should help.

Have you got a faulty usb device that could be causing problems?

Thanks for the suggestion.

Unfortunately it’s not worked, I’ve uninstalled the USB drivers and re-booted, set a file transferring and attempted to open Outlook 2010, Outlook was stuck on the opening screen, left it for 30seconds (still on the opening screen – usually takes a second or two to open) then unplugged the USB drive (which was still transferring) as soon as I unplugged the USB drive Outlook opened.
It’s not a problem with the Pendrive as this works fine in other PC’s.

Cheers

Please note, the PC is absolutely fine apart from when its transferring to USB…

it is a ScanDisk, but a 16GB version, doesn't slow other PC's down though, have you tried yours in other PC's?
