Hi guys,

I'd appreciate a little advice here.

Turned on computer this evening and it would not boot at all.

All the fans spin, light for the mouse comes on but i get no picture to the monitor at all.

I have disconnected the optical and hard drives and left in only a single stick of RAM with no joy. I get no beeps from the motherboard. Also tried with a different graphics card.

Once the computer is turned on the power switch fails to turn it off again.

I'm thinking a dead motherboard but would welcome any suggestions.

System is a P4 prescott in a asus p4p800se.

First of all, no beeps from motherboard - you got the PC speaker plugged in?

I'd get a stick of RAM you definately know to work, memory is the most common fault for that kinda problem.

Next up is powersupply, they can just go sometimes and cause the PC not to post but to appear to fire up.

After that I'd go down the lines of processor and motherboard.

Neway

Best of luck :)

Hi,

Checked memory stick in an old system and that seems fine.

Next up I tried the power supply. I hooked up an old power supply and the system booted up fine. :D

The power supply was the one supplied with my antec sonata case.

Now all I need is a suggestion for a new power supply.

System is a p4, gig ram, 6800gt and a couple hard drives.

Thanks for the help.
