Hi just went to switch on my PC (in sig) and it all powers up as in the lights are on and the fan powers up but nothing, I know its not the GPU or PSU as I've tested these in an older system and they work, I doubt it is the RAM as usually you get beeps from the PC speaker however I can't test this as its DDR3 and my Core 2 system uses DDR2. Also due to the other machine been Intel I can't test the CPU or mobo to find out which it is, anyone got ant suggestions on which its most likely to be?

What PSU is it?

PSU's could work in an older machine with less power requirements.
Agree it's unlikely to be CPU, GPU is tested.
RAM try just one stick at a time in each slot
Try default settings in bios (remove OC).

andy.

I had what sounds to be exactly the same problem (although it would eventually turn on, either by turning it on and off many times, or leaving it for a period of time), and it was the PSU that was faulty. You might find the fault is intermittent, so you may need to test it in another machine for a longer period of time.

check your is your PSU is functioning as expected. Use my guide here:

If your PSU is ok, then check your RAM modules by using MEMTEST86+.

Check the manufacturers website for recommended voltage and timings etc.
Try running your system with one stick of RAM at a time and try that stick in different slots. If the RAM stick fails in all slots, then its almost certainly a RAM problem. If the working RAM stick works in one slot but not another, then this is looking at a memory controller problem. This could be CPU or Motherboard depending on the platform. In your case, this will be the motherbaord.

If the RAM and PSU look ok, then you are looking at a faulty mobo, possibly burnt out VRMs.

Definately not the psu, its been powering another system fine for 3 hours now, tried with just one stick of RAM putting it in each socket still nothing so it must be either CPU or Motherboard, just need to find out which now. Seems strange that it died overnight when it was fine before with no hint of there being anything wrong.

Always difficult to prove which one with a spare of each.
My only advice is to see if you can get your hands on a very cheap second hand low end CPU for that platform.. just for elimination. You can always sell afterwards.

Sounds like it could be the PSU but without the process of elimination its diffiuclt to tell. Can you not take one of your CPUs out of your current system and test? If it still doesn't post you have your culprit.

The PSU is in this system and running fine, can't swap the CPUs as this system is an Intel Core 2 and the system that wont post is an AMD Phenom II. Gonna try and get hold of a mate's mate that has a AM3 system and try my CPU in his system, should determine where the fault lies.

Not been able to test the CPU yet as no-one is available or willing to strip down their system, but had it in bits today with nothing but bare essentials (RAM,MOBO,GPU,CPU) and still nothing, even tried without the RAM installed and then with out the GPU and still no error beeps. So would this push you towards a faulty CPU or MOBO, personally I'm thinking its the motherboard but if I RMA it and it isn't I will probably get charged a handling fee.
