Just built a new PC. Tried to install windows but it wouldn't boot from CD so I made floppy boot disks from the windows site and ran through that process until it asks for the CD.

It still wouldn't recognise the CD so I did a restart to install a differnt optical drive to see if that made anydifference.

I can still get into BIOS ok but after that point it just sits with a blinking underscroe on the screen at the point where it would usually say something like 'Couldn't boot from hard disk, insert valid system disk and press any key.

I've tried running the floppy boot disks again but it's not even trying to access the drives - any ideas?

System specs are:

ASUS P5W HD mobo
Core 2 Duo 6600
XFX 8800 GTX
2x1Gb GSkill DDR2
160Gb Seagate Barracuda

Bad windows disk?

Cables to the CD drive are definitely in the right way?

I had to format my HDD on another computer then put it back in, my windows disk wouldn't format the HDD >.<

Hmm... I'd got it set to try CD first but just tried and disabled both HDD and floppy from the boot sequence and it not at least prompts me to 'insert boot media' which is wasn't doing a second ago.

Will try just floppy and just HDD and see what happens...

try sticking the windows disk in the pc you are using atm while windows is running. should get a little menu pop up asking if you want to install

will possibly rule out a bad cd. Just make sure you take the disk out and dont click install on this machine

OK, set it to only boot from floppy and it'll now run the boot disk - hopefully it'll work this time! Wish me luck :)
