My PC was fine last night, i turned it off and went to bed, i turned it on this morning and it will not start, the fans all spin up for about a second then they stop and nothing(1 on graphics card, the PSU, heatsink and the other 2 in the PC) the light on the motherboard stays green (thats normal)
Any help would be appreciated, iv taken out a stick of RAM, still the same thing happens, changed graphics card and still the same... the hard drive does make a noise when the pc is booting for that split second, it is a funny noise i think (never actually listened to a hard drive noise on purpose before)

Specs...
q6600 @ stock
PNY 8800GTS 512MB @ stock
2GB Geil 800MHZ RAM @ stock
Asus p5n32e-sli mobo
coolermaster 620w PSU

Simple things first - remove any extra hard drives/optical drives/expansion cards [such as eSATA and Firewire/front panel headers other than power adn reset] including their power connectors, until you have a basically bare system, then retry.

If no joy, with the same bare config, whip out the power cable, pull out the CMOS battery, set the jumper to the 'clear' setting and have a cup of tea and some biccies.

When you have om-nom-nom'd the biccies and supped the tea, pop the battery back in, reset the jumper, plug in the power and retry.

Also, try shouting at the machine. It won't actually help, but it'll make you feel better, much like the tea and biccies. And lets face it, that's what really matters

If it works without a BIOS reset, plug things back in one at a time [IE a power connector on a DVD drive first, then it's data cable, etc] and when it stops booting, you have probably found the problem.

Let us know how you get on.

brother has been round and he couldnt get it off either :p got him to try some other stuff, taking everything out and doing 1 thing at a time, worked everytime until he put in the 4 pin connector to the mobo, tried the 8 pin connector and nothing, sooo new mobo or psu?

id say mobo
Mine was like the opposite than this. Every time i shutdown all the fans stayed on was a nightmare. Couldn't leave it to shut down as always had to switch it off at the wall!

you have noticed its a metal bit on one side of the battery circle, which you depress, then press down on it on the other side and it will pop out.

But yea, doubt thatll do anything if it works fine up until you put that connector in.

Sorry to bump my thread.... tried a different PSU last night still the same thing happens, so ordering a new mobo today (ASUS P5Q-e) :) (not going to be here for 5 days though) but jsut a quick question, is there a chance it could be the CPU that is damaged?

I'm having a similar problem, and I'm pretty sure it's the motherboard. Just RMA'd mine. I've noticed when I try switching the PC on with the 4pin +12v connector plugged out, the fans stay on but the system still refuses to boot/POST. Have you tried that?

im having nearly the same problem but fans keep spinning with mine tried everything phoned tech helpline they recken its mobo so i rma mine last week but decided to buy another mobo as i didnt want to be without a pc installed new mobo (asus p5q same as the rma one) worked fine but within four days back to same problem just gonna try and boot up with mobo outside case to see if its shorting anywhere ,ive tried everything else except new psu ill let you know mobo result as soon they let me know
thanks ravane you just fixed my pc :) i was using the 8pin and did some research and found 8pin was best for quad cores so i swapped it over to 4pin and switched on and it works
p.s im using E8500 dual core
