PC Won’t Boot Using Onboard GFX

Hello,

Hoping for some help please.

Recently I removed my 1050ti with the view of selling it and just using he onboard graphics of my i5 6600k. However, when I try and boot using the onboard graphics the PC won’t load (no BIOS screen, no beeping) and just restarts after about 10 seconds.

I’ve tried:
- Removing graphics card, then removing CMOS battery
- Resetting BIOS
- Changing BIOS to prioritise onboard graphics

The HD530 chipset doesn’t appear in Device Manager and when I try and install the HD530 drivers (Gigabyte Z170-N) it says ‘system doesn’t meet minimum requirements’.

I have used the onboard graphics before with this PC but that was using a different i5 6600k. The 6600k I have in there now was actually for friends PC build but it didn’t seem to boot on their mobo, but my old i5 did work so we swapped.

I’m starting to think the CPU might be a ‘bad one’ what with the issues I’m facing and the fact it would never boot my friends PC (but has, till now, been fine on mine).

Any suggestions would be much appreciated thanks.

just an off-the-cuff thought here, so apologies if it was your first action, but put the 1050 back in and enter the bios to check the iGFX isn't disabled by default

Thanks for the reply.

I've checked and it's set to 'Auto'. If I force it to 'Enabled' it won't boot, even with the 1050 in.

Have you tried a different cable, or port, on the motherboard?

Thanks, have tried both and no difference unfortunately. Even with nothing plugged in to the HDMI port it reboots after 10 seconds or so.

An unlikely possibility I can think of is a dirty contact pad on the CPU, or something like that, which could explain the erratic behaviour if motherboards treat it differently.

I assume IGP still doesn't work when you have the 1050 Ti connected?

Could be, so I will look at cleaning and reseating the GPU. Correct, unfortunately IGP doesn’t work with or without the 1050 connected.

Thinking I might save some hassle and (begrudgingly) stick with the 1050 for the foreseeable.

Sounds amazingly stupid but if you didn't buy this CPU are you sure it's not a 9600KF?
