basically that.. if I have my slim aluminium apple keyboard attached in any way to my pc when it starts up it hangs at the usb startup, however if I disconnect it and wait until its told me there is no keyboard attached and thren plug it in all is fine.

Any ideas?

Its annoying because it means I have to have a keyboard knocking about for BIOS access.

Tried switching BIOS USB keyboard support on or off, depending on what it's already on?

Don't forget, switching it off won't stop a USB keyboard working in BIOS, the BIOS support means the USB keyboard will work in the operating system (DOS, windows set up etc...) until another USB driver is started (windows).

faffed around with the BIOS and nothing is jumping out at me, changed some settings and nothing seemed to work.. any other suggestions?

Its an ASUS P5K delux btw.

H'mm. I googled this and found a few other hits of the same issue, and they have Asus P5K boards as well... Might just be an issue with your board and the Alu Keyboard.

Could try a BIOS update? Shot in the dark...

Why would you use an Apple keyboard on a PC in the first place?

hmm...

I can't possibly think of any reasons tbh..

my slim aluminium apple keyboard works great on my Abit IP35 system. i didnt need to do any bios setup. so i guess your board and the apple keyboard isnt compatible.

daft thing is its fine if I boot with my dell keyboard and go into the bios then unplug that keyboard and plug in the apple one I can go around the bios fine, make changes, save and exit.. reboot.. hangs at initialising usb controllers.

Its not terminal, just merely irritating, more because it baffles the wife and encourages her to unplug things on the odd occasion it restarts (maybe once a month but still...)

Its so lovely to use and quiet that its worth it.

do u have a usb 1.0 hub? you can goto poundland and get one.

maybe forcing it to use USB 1.0 instead of 2.0 will work to bypass something.

or buying a usb PCI card if you want to use the keyboard and see if that works so that it's not running direct off mobo.
