I'm building a PC for a friend (which makes this even worse for me), and I've just come to pressing the power switch reasuring him that everything is fine, and then nothing.. Nothing happens

Now, I am using a friends old antec smartpower PSU, il try swapping that out later today when I can. Seeing as there is no activity when I turn it on, I figure it's probably that.

I'm just preparing myself though, if it isn't the PSU, what do I do next? I've never had this trouble before, what components might cause the rig to just not boot like this? Motherboard? (Please dont be the motherboard  )

Thanks guys

I had this problem a few months ago.

The problem was that The PSU had actually been set onto the wrong voltage (strange!) i had the flick the little red slide switch at the back and it worked fine, but my I was given a friends PC and the PSU plugs hadn't been plugged into the motherboard, the first set had, but because it was a Dell PC it required a second power plug behind the CPU Heatsink.

Hope this helps

This is the first time yeah, there is absolutley NO activity. No fans spin, no HDD access, nothing at all.

About the PSU voltage, this was used in a PC for about two years before this, so the voltage should be fine.

I have just phoned the guy though, and I've got some new info. A while ago his PC would not boot, he thought it was the PSU so he bought a new one, that didn't boot either. He later found out that it was the power cable, so he kept the new PSU in with a new cable, and assumed the old PSU was fine. The old one, is the one we have here.

It sounds more and more like that, but still, what else could it be?

I should list specs:

Gigabyte S3
Crucial 2GB value select PC 5300
C2D E4300
ATI Sapphire X1950 Pro

Are there problems with RAM and MB? I know my DS4 is picky about the RAM I use.
