I got a new CPU (Intel e2180) Motherboard (Abit P35-E), I've fitted them but when I press my powerbutton the fans buzz for 1second and it shuts off. Nothing appears on the screens or anything.

Any ideas? I've tried removing my GPU/Sound/RAM/HDD but with no luck.

No beeps. :( The red motherboard LED comes on for PSU and green when I try to boot though.

I've literally taken most of the components out, could it be the CPU? Or Powercables, I have 3 to plug in yes?

Motherboard could be getting shorted out, might be worth taking the motherboard out of the case and resting it on the anti-static foam that is in the mobo box and attempting to boot up externally to rule out the case shorting it.

I reset the Bios jumper and it works now but it says:

CPU is unworkable or has been changed.

Then when I continuoe it says: BOOT DISK FAILED PLEASE INSERT SYSTEM DISC.

Which I insert the motherboard one, I get 3 options to boot, skip or create a driver disk, if I boot from my HDD it fails, if I skip it shuts my PC down. :(

Have you set the ram to its correct voltages in the bios as well? They defult to 1.8v but you should set it to what ever it states it needs on the box. While this is probably unconnected with your problem. Its good to have your memmory stable to take it out of the equation.

I reset the bios again with the jumper and instead of the:

CPU is unworkable or has been changed. Please see CPU soft menu.

It now says:

CMOS checksum error.

I can boot into Windows fine now and the CMOS error has gone however I still get the:

CPU is unworkable or has been changed. Please see CPU soft menu.

So close to victory! :)

Error is gone but the CPU/RAM doesn't look right:

Looks like 1 core at 1.2ghz? (I watch it and sometimes jumps to 10x multiplier for 2ghz but usually it stays at below)

RAM should be 800mhz?

I've looked in the BIOS several times and it looks okay to me, so not sure why it says different in Windows.

I can't format my Hard Disk.

If I set my DVD Reader to boot my XP disc, it doesn't detect it, neither does my DVDRW drive. However once I'm in my existing Windows it loads the disk fine.

I've tried formatting the disk in Windows but it won't let me since I'm currently active on it.

Any ideas?
