pc wont boot

hi this is my 1st post great forum you have here

my problem is my pc wont boot its a self build by a friend but i was there so watched all that was done its about 2 months old now. i was getting some high temps so decided to get some better thermal paste so tonight i took off the eat sink cleaned it and cpu then put it all back together now it wont boot for some reason but if i take the 4 pin power wire out it boots up fans spin and all that but thats it no beep ie posting any ideas thanks

...why would you take the 4pin out in the first place? and changing the heatsink compund even from something like £1 to a arctic silver will make a max of 1-3 C* difference.

So you get nothing on the screen? Check to make sure both the main 24pin ATX and 4 pin supplementary connections are fitted securely.

I would also check the PSU is working and supplying the correct voltages.

If you have access to a multimeter, you can check you PSU very easily.

Was it an old motherboard that was used?

Another thing to try, however unlikely, is try pressing the power button while the PC is not plugged in. Sometimes my desktop will do exactly as you describe and cycling the power while not connected to the mains discharges the capacitors.

Another thing is to reset your CMOS.

After these 2 things are done and the problem persists, the real troubleshooting begins! As has already been said, check the power connectors to your motherboard, is the CPU power connected? Graphics cards etc.

it was some thing i seen on youtube that had same problems as mine they took it out so i done same to see if it was exactly same problem as mine

i have taken it all apart now i have just the mobo gpu cpu and psu plugged in it switches on and stays on but i dont get a beep ie it wont post

by staying on is on a splash screen ?? or just still powered on with a blankk screen ?

don't get anything just all the fans stay on and it don't cut out after a few seconds thanks
