Pc won't boot

Hi all,

I have recently installed a new asus sabertooth 990fx motherboard, with an amd fx 6100 bulldozer, 2x 4gb vengeance ddr3, gigabyte GeForce 670 wind force gpu. This was a bundle from over clockers apart from the graphics card. I also have a 1000w CPU which has always worked great.

The reason I'm here is that about 5 mins into installing windows I get the blue screen and the computer reboots and the process repeats itself.

I'm at a bit of a loss and worried as this wasn't cheap, I'm really hoping its something simple.

Any advise or ideas would be very much appreciated.

What PSU is it?

It's a galaxy dxx enermax.

Hmm, its unlikely to be that then.

ClearCMOS and repeat the windows installation.

Hopefully it gets through this process and then you can enter the BIOS and load the overclocked profile if it was bought as a overclocked bundle..

It wouldn't be cause I'm installing windows xp would it? I'm waiting for a new copy of win 7 to arrive so was putting on xp for now.

You could always use the Win8 preview?

But installing XP should not be a problem.

Check the memory voltage and timings, also run mem test to check for any ram issues.

Is it still just booting up and then rebooting?

Yeah, and I'm not getting any mother board warning lights either. If its telling me in the bios what motherboard type I have, how much ram etc. does that mean the parts are ok? Or does it just say tHat anyway?

So have you tried a clearCMOS?

Yes cleared the CMOS. It always crashes at the exact same point on xp when the installing device drivers bar is displayed.

Sounds like RAM or HDD to me, you can eliminate RAM easily enough by trying the sticks one at a time - and check you have the voltage right.

Yeah did the ram elimination thing, as for the voltage, I've never messed with anything like that before or wouldn't know what the voltage should be.

Probably best to leave it alone then.

I presume you don't have another HDD spare... so may as well try Windows 8 as stulid suggested.

Sounds silly, but try another SATA lead also?

Still learning about things as I go. Could something silly as a sata lead really prevent the system from booting?
