Hi

I have a PC at work which is not working. We have a small network of 10 pcs. The PC does load to desktop and everything worlks fine apart from the fact it won't connect to the network or internet.

In the hardware device manager it says there are no problems and everything is working ok. However when i look in 'View network connections' on the problem pc it only shows 'internet connection' not the Local Area connection also which the other pc's do show as connected.

Any ideas what can cause this because i checked hardware manager and it said everything was working ok. We have reconnected all the wiring and changed the cables round to eleminate that.

Any help much apprecaited.

Is your network using DHCP? If so how large is the scope?

Go into a command prompt and tyep: "ipconfig /all" without the quotes - this should tell you what address if any is being assigned to the PC. If it has been statically addressed then maybe it needs to be changed to automatically detect - there's many reasons why it wont connect but if your hardware sounds ok then I'd check IP settings etc as above.

Hi ...

is the Rj45 cable plugged into the back of the PC ?

is the Rj45 cable connected to the Hub / Router ?

is there any lights on the NIC card when u plug the cables in ?

network card isn`t disabled is it in windows / network properties?

have given the PC the right workgroup name / Domain ?

are u using Static IP address ?

is the DHCP in the NIC properties turned on ?

have u turned on file / Printer sharing ?

have u run the join network wizard ?

all the PC`s in the group are the same OS`s IE : all XP / Vista ?

just a few things to try ;)

ahhhh the joys of networking ;)

When you say not connecting, is it being assigned an IP address at all? My first port of call would be the TCP/IP settings.

If you're running a workgroup, it is close to the limit of systems before you start getting problems.
