Hi all I'm new to the forum, I have an interesting issue....
My pc will not connect to a router at all unless via a Ethernet cable,
But it will connect to my phone when I hotspot it!!! Any ideas as to why this is? Any help is welcome....
I am running win 10 64 bit

Thanks in advance

Hi,

Check which WiFi channel the router is running on, some WiFi cards can't connect to channel 13.

Update driver for it too.

I will check the channel.. I have an Asus pcie n15 card the drivers are up to date
I have tried to connect it to 4 different routers and it won't....
yet it connects to any phone that's hotspotted....
it is very frustrating

The pc does see the router, when I try to connect it thinks about it for 20 seconds ish then says unable to connect!
How do I find out if it is a valid ip?
My Xbox one, kindle, iPhone 6, iPod Gf's Samsung and PS4 all connect to the router ok!!!

I have tried 4 different routers in the houses I have lived in, Bt home hub, sky, talk talk, and tp link.... the pc does the same no matter what... in the other houses I have been able to plug a long Ethernet cable in I do not have that option this time.... I have even contemplated buying a new wifi card!!!

If it's actually unable to connect then it won't be getting an IP at all. How far is the router exactly and how many walls are between them?

You can use something like Vistumbler to see how strong the PC is seeing the signal.

Could try doing a "Network reset", control panel > network > status > network reset

It does a bunch of stuff, including reinstalling your network card drivers etc...

I will try a network reset, I've not done that before.... it has not connected to a tp link before but the others it has but only sporadically and once it has stopped it won't connect again..... the thing is all of the networks I have tried to connect to no other device has ever had an issue only my pc.....

Yup, sounds like your wireless adapter driver is borked. Move the PC to the router (or vice versa if there's a phone extension near the PC) and use a wired connection to refresh the driver through the control panel.
