I think i have Waisted some cash in buying another motherboard

maybe somebody on here has had this problem before, or somebody has some ideas!

here we go...

Working PC, then it starts to do things on its own, it reboots its self, screen goes off, error no hdd attached , that sort of thing.

anyway, so i backed up the hard drive to another PC and formated the hard drive, and i have tried to install windows countless times now, it keeps saying "Insert Disk"

so, i decided to take out the cd drive and hard drive (SATA) and replace them with MY hard drive and CD drive , same thing again. so i decided to try that windows CD on MY computer, and no problems, installed windows just fine.

so i replaced the motherboard and been trying it again all night, same thing "insert disk"

so if using a different CD drive and hard drive dont work, changing the motherboard also didnt help, what else could it be

i need to give my brothers computer back!!!

Hmmm....could it be memory? Have you tried testing the memory with memtest86 at all? Other than that I haven't got a clue :p

I hope not!
hmm i could try my RAM in his PC, not sure how it could be memmory really

I really don't know, but in my experience, weird problems usually point to memory. :D

Although I could be (and probably am) totally wrong.

I still can not Install Windows XP!!

I bought a new motherboard, no difference.

I sorted the shut down problems, Heatsink is now tight again and temps are fine.

I have tried mem test , 7 passes 0 errors
I tried a different cd drive, hard drive and ive just tried my PSU! no change!

I have now run out of ideas, the only thing I have not tried is the CPU, but its SKT 754 so i cant use my SKT 939 chip to try it, could i have another faulty motherboard?

"insert disk" is that exactly what it says ?, have you checked the bios is setup right to detect your cd-rom drive first ?, changed ide cable etc.

yeah!

ive got it booting to CD to format the hard drive.

Ive got cd drive on IDE 1 MASTER
and the hard drive on SATA 1
ive got CD drive booting first
ive got SATA on IDE mode (as opposed to RAID)

it has to be the memory then, I don't see how it would cause this kind of problem but you say you've changed motherboard, cd-rom, hardrive, PSU and still no fix, the only thing you have left is the mem and cpu and out of the two I'd say memory, have you tried different memory ?

i did before i tightened the heatsink, but as i said i just did a mem test, no problems

i'll go and stick one of mine in and try it again, just to iliminate that.

other than that, i cant test the CPU, unless theres such a things as a SKT 939 to 754 CPU converter?

definatly points to memory problem to me this had thsi b4 and thats what it was.
have you tried other ram ?
cant see it being the board or the writer reader as if they where goosed it wouldnt read or write.

try different memory

Did you instal your SATA drivers by pressing F6 (i think) when u start instal and putting in a disk??
Mine would format but the windows installer would not go any further with out the drivers

but it worked before so i dont see why i need to do that, but i'll look into it
