I bought my PC from Overclockers three years ago. The motherboard is an Asus ROG Strix X470-F. I've just had to replace a faulty 140mm chassis exhaust fan. The builder of my PC had connected this fan to the "Optional CPU Fan Header", the CPU fan header being used to power the water cooler fan. No problem with this at all. However when I fitted the new fan which is identical to the one I removed I decided to connect it to another 4 pin fan header nearby.
When I switched the PC on everything started up as usual but my monitor was reporting no signal and I had a blank screen. After checking everything I could think of I disconnected the new fan and my PC booted up perfectly. I then reconnected the fan to the "Optional CPU Fan" header and the PC is working just fine again.
All of the fans on my system are set to PWR and monitored by the BIOS.
Any ideas why connecting the new fan to a different fan header would cause a lose of video signal to the monitor please?
Thanks.
