Just a quick question and I wonder if anyone can solve this strange mystery. I completed the first part of a new build yesterday. Everything was going well and it booted up first time with no issues straight into windows which was already installed on a pre-existing drive. Used the computer for a few hours and then tried overclocking and testing different speeds etc. Got a bsod and it refused to boot up.

I got a BOOT.MGR is missing message which usually means the master boot record is corrupted so I loaded my windows disc in to do a repair etc and it wouldn't load. I found out later that it was because I hadn't changed a setting.

Did some more messing around and found out that the computer will boot perfectly fine when i selected IDE mode for the drives but refuses to boot when AHCI mode is selected.

Everytime I try I get a boot.mgr is missing message. It is not a hardware issue that I can see as I am on now typing this message from the same computer.

Spec are

i7 4790k
Maximus Formula 6
8gb ram
ATI 7950 3GB

3 Normal sata drives and one ssd. Windows is on a normal drive not the ssd.

Motherboard bios upto date too? 1505 is the latest version for the M6F. I'd avoid beta 1504 as it overvolts the devils canyon chips too much.

is this a clean install??? and may i ask why you didn't put windows on the ssd???

whenever you install windows, make sure that all other drives are disconnected

sometimes cmos resets after a bsod, ie to ide from ahci, windows boots then 'switches' off achi drivers 'cos if thinks they're not being used

ms have done a utility to switch back to ahci
search for
MicrosoftFixit50470.msi
