A PC I built for my brother has recently stopped working. The PC was in use when it reset itself then refuse to post. When i hit the power button the power suppply comes on along with the cpu/gpu fans and hard disks etc. There are no beep codes and the monitor does not switch on.

The system is based around a Quad Core Intel C2D, Gigabyte P35C_DS3R, 8800GTX and 2gb crucial DDR2 1066.

I think that its probably the CPU or the motherboard, I'm not sure how to tell which though. Any ideas how i can find out so I can RMA the correct part. I dont have any other components that fit with this kit to test.

The pc was fully working until recently. My brother had been using it for about a month without issue. Ill take the ram out now and see what happens. Thx for the suggestion.

Ok when I take out the ram the system beeps continously. I take it that means the memory is faulty then?

You mentioned to try re-seating the cpu. Why is it that taking the ram out indicates a CPU error. I would have thought that doing this indicated that the ram was faulty and that is what was preventing the system from booting.

If you do get the beeps, try re-seating the cpu, see what that does.

Should that be if you "don't" get beeps? As if you do get beeps then its the ram causing the problem in which case there would be no point in re-seating the CPU?

Either way taking a stick out has fixed the problem so I guess ill get the memory RMA'ed. Thanks for the help.
