Hello,

My brother's PC won't post as of this morning, it was working fine yesterday and now nothing. The CPU spins up and that's it, nothing else. I *think* that his motherboard is probably dead as the onboard audio gave up a while ago. There is nothing on the screen either.

The PC is only a few months old except the mobo, which is well over a year old.

Athlon 6000+
Asus M2N-SLI
Geforce 9600 GT
4 GB Corsair XMS 2
320 GB Western Digital HDD

Thanks in advance!

If youve got no display, try using the onboard gfx just in case gfx card has gone
thing is it could be any one of the components tbh, gfx card, mobo, cpu, ram, psu.....do you have another system you can test the components in by swapping over one at a time? without the mobo audio youre struggling to diagnose

It is the CPU! Didn't expect that, anyone know how it could have happened? It's only 3 months old!

Brother says he shut down on sat night as usual and tried to start it up on Sunday, to no avail.

Will hopefully get an RMA as it had the stock cooler on it and wasn't overclocked.

I'd RMA the board when I was at it your not gonna be able to use it anyway if the processor is being RMA'd, and if the onboard sound is gone may as well get it sorted. Had a similar setup few months ago, its a decent board.

******.

Yup, tried the processor in another board and it didn't work, tried a 5600+ in the board and it worked fine. Swapped out all components inc. PSU for other ones, definitely the processor!

He will be able to use my old processor in the mean time but I might try RMA the board too.

The board is pretty old now - a good year and a bit, so we'll see.
