The problem: PC has all been fine up until makin this post, yesterday I finished settings my overclock to a really stable 4.8Ghz, did general PC stuff this morning.

Got some cable combs for the 8PIN GPU / 24Ping cables, fitted them, used the PC.

Speed forward 6 hours later, I get in from work, go to turn the PC on and it all lights up then goes off instantly, try to turn it back on and now there is no POST, debug code no the mobo just remains 00 (Which isn't a debug code)

The ONLY things that have been touched are the 24pin and PCI powers, both of which I have reseated. Nothing else has been touched. Water loops are not leaking and I'm stumped. Any help would be great

The only thing I have noticed that is different is the XMP LED on the mobo is off where as (I'm not 100%) It was on before. I've tried to reset CMOS and remove the battery, didn't do anything.

Tried to swap BIOS, again, did nothing.

Have you tried removing the combs - and then checking each individual cable/pin that it hasn't been slightly pulled out of their respective seating?

They are not the proper combs, they are the clips that just keep the cables together.

I have made progress tho, I removed the 24pin extender I used (Just used to make the cables blue on the cheap) but now, I'm getting "Insert Boot Media" About to change the M.2 slot so see if it changes anything

M.2 Drive isn't picked up in either M.2 Slot as having an OS on it. It is showing in BIOS tho, should I just try to reinstall OS onto it ? Assume its dead ? Buy an Evo 960?

I would certainly try and access it with an attempted windows install before assuming its dead.

Do you have Ubuntu (similar) on a USB stick - could test it that way?

Having reset CMOS would this not have altered the HDD boot settings? So may be looking for legacy HDD only and not legacy+uefi.

Hope this makes sense, not sure of the correct terminology. :p

It would have but from his last post I assumed he had prioritised boot order - worth a reminder.

Having said that, @Choaski, did you disable - RST PCIe Storage Remapping after the CMOS reset?

No, I feel like I have never done that.

Boot Order is fine, everything in unplugged ATM with only 1 HDD

Turn the PC on this morning with a OS USB intoto it, As soon as I get to the language selection the PC restarts.

Typical dead mobo ?

Getting no POST and being able to to past POST seems very intermittent at the moment. Just had 3 attempts to get into BIOS without the PC Posting (After the first try of getting into Windows OS) Going to leave it 30mins and try again before I end up breaking something :(

Maybe could possibly still be something else - have you ran all standard diagnostics:

  • Double/triple check all your connections and hardware is seated properly - ideally remove and reseat all of them - including SATA leads etc...
  • Check the kettle lead is securely fitted into the back of the PSU - sometimes gets overlooked.
  • If using an extension lead try plugging PC directly into the wall socket - or a different extension lead if this isn't possible.
  • Clear CMOS 'again'?
  • If the above fails try a skeleton setup - 1 stick memory in alternate slots, CPU, gfx card and nothing else (or onboard GFX if you have it). See if it boots.
  • Check motherboard is securely fitted - no movement.
  • Remove front panel header leads and short the power pins to see if it boots - to rule out the case connectors.

See above post.

How old is the PSU? do you have another you could use to check?

I would normally suggest trying it out of the case - but custom water :/

I would try and eliminate shorting as much as possible when you next have the patience to go back without putting a hammer to it.

EDIT: Try removing the case connectors now from the front panel connector and try shorting it to start.

Above post has all been tried except for barebones the system and try.

Just to remind, this is NOT a fresh setup, nothing has been moved or changed and fully functional the previous day other then the 24PIN which I added cable clips too.

I've been using the mobo button to turn on and off

EDIT: Don't have any spare parts to test, sadly. and PSU is under 2 years old

Yeah, got the impression from your initial post you knew what you were doing (always best to check).

Clips/combs may have been coincidental though - they may have initiated a fault that was lurking already. But, interesting that you had a glimmer of hope by removing 24 pin extender...

To clarify have you been able to try an alternate PSU too?

Shame about possible alternate PSU test - the multimeter test if you have one?

If so then motherboard is looking suspicious if you've tried all the above.

Not yet, I'll have to try and locate one to test it over the weekend. Current one is under a year old (Just checked my orders)

Low and behold, when a Friend is in need, a friend has come through! Who coincidentally had the same PSU as me so I didn't need to do much work. Changed PSU and we all flying all back up and running, now time to RMA the old one.

It appears I have two accounts on the forums...

Hehe - the first post confused the hell out of me.

Glad to read you got it sorted - it's amazing how many motherboard problems end up being PSU related.

Nice easy fix considering you're under water - must be a mighty relief!

I'm going to assume there is some power surge thing in the PSU which needed to defuse or something, left it outside of the machine for 2 days, put it in and it's running fine but prior to putting it back in, more then happy it was only a PSU thing. Whilst I don't mind stripping the loop down, I've done it way too much in the past month. Need a few months of no upgrades to enjoy the PC again :).

Thanks for the help as well, appreciate it. I'll be less trusting next time and just try the dam PSU xD
