Hi,

So tonight when I turned my computer off, the monitor and usb prephirals turned off, although everything inside my computer is still on, as the less are lit and the hard drives humming. The only way I can get the system to power off is by unplugging the kettle plug, yet after plugging in again, it automatically reboots without me even touching the on buttons. This is driving me crazy.. Any ideas guys :/

Thanks in advance,

Wiry

Does your motherboard have some sort of fast boot option on it ? if so this may be turned on and causing this.

Check the case connections (PWRon, Reset etc) on the motherboard? (Though i see no reason why they would have moved or changed if you havent fiddled inside at all).

I've checked the case connections and I reset the Cmos. It isn't looking very positive

Newbie here but to me, it sounds like your power button is faulty, or the connection on the motherboard? Maybe it is sticking or isn't working at all!?!?

I was maybe thinking the same, I'll unplug the connection on the mobo and see if it powers up still. Thanks for the advice.

Hello dude, I had the same prob with a newly built system... my 400R case has a Firewire port.. or If your motherboard has a firewire port, you should check in device manager if it is set to allow the computer to switch off the device, You can do this by going to properties of the devices under IEEE1394 Bus host controller and going to power management. After that, make sure the "allow this computer to turn off this device to save power" is ticked.

ok,I'll try that one later, thanks. Although I don't actually have the esata and FireWire plugged into the mobo as they're useless to me !

I would just remove everything that is removable and try again. "Everything"

If that does not work remove "Everything" apart from Ram, Mouse, keyboard and CPU. and go from there.

CMOS is a good shout please make sure you are doing this correctly not just by pin removing the battery also if needed.

I have tried al the above and even used one sick of ram at a time. What now... :/

I've got the same issue here but only intermittently.. sometimes it shuts down fine sometimes all the lights will go off but fans will stay running. The only way to power off properly is to hold the power switch down for 5 secs until it's dead...

If you find a solution please remember to post back!

I really don't know what could be causing this. I don't have a spare power supply unfortunately so I can't try that one, and I'm not sure about how my cpu / mobo goes.

I'm doing a memtest and so far I have 0 pass and over 750,000 errors... I think this may be part of the problem.

Certainly something wrong! Sorry for slightly hijacking, but what does memtest do and can it run on a laptop?

Hope you can get replacement's of the parts that are causing the problem ;)

its basically a way of testing your systems memory, like your ram etc. And yes it should work on a laptop.
