I was running prime95 to test the overclock on my i5 750. I was in another room watching match of the day so I don't know exactly what went wrong. From memory and a piece of paper I scribbled on, i used the settings below:

190x20
1.375 vcore
1.65 dram
1.15 vtt
1.86 pll
1.050 pch

I thought my gigabyte ud2 was set up to shut down if it got too hot and since windows booted ok I thought it would be fine if left for a few minutes. However now when I press the power button the fans light up briefly but nothing powers up properly. Does this mean it must be a problem with the psu/mobo? Or have I fried the cpu/ram?

My old pc is so old that I don't have any other components to test it out with other than am old psu that might not be powerful enough.

Any help much appreciated.

turn PSU rocker switch off
hit power button on front of case
take battery out of mobo
leave a minute
put 1 stick of RAM in 3rd slot away from CPU
put battery back in mobo
power back up.

Try that mate ;)

Ok I tried that and it didn't work, still no power at all. Does that mean my motherboard is dead?

Well the PSU works in my old PC. However, the old PSU is so old that it doesn't have the right connectors to test it in my new PC. I tried anyway with just the long connector on the mobo and it powered up the fans for a second then turned off... and repeated this process over and over until I switched the PSU off. This is more than happens with the new PSU (lights only flick on for a split second when I press the power button and no other sound, noise or boot up at all).

I have also noticed that the lights on the mobo do light up briefly. Any ideas what is going on?

Turns out my motherboard was dead after all. I tried breadboarding it outside the case in case it was short circuiting but it still wouldn't power up.

However now my keyboard only works in the bios for some reason. I've tried another keyboard, different usb ports, reinstalling drivers... Everything I can think of and nothing so now I'm just giving up and reinstalling windows.
