My guess gpu might be dead as I cant see any other issue
PC runs with 0 issues from the onboard gtx
As soon as the card is connected and try to boot it seems like it shorts
Tried with heatsink on and without still the same issue
Tried bios reset and CMOS battery removed
Narrowed it down to a dead card but maybe someone has ideas?
Thanks

have u tried the gfx card in another pc?? if it wont fire up in another pc u can be pretty certain the card is done for

Did the the GPU work ok before you changed the cooler?

Strip the card down and check for any damage to PCB or components.

Tried a different PCIE cable?

Card worked fine
Had a look and there is no obvious damage on the gpu nor can I smell anything funny :D
Ordered another cable just in case, normally hold well but you never know with those things
Cheers for the help

To clarify, PC runs fine but then you install the GPU and it fails?

Does it fail to boot or fail to power on at all? if the former does hooking the monitor up to the onboard while the GPU is installed allow it to finish booting? If the latter does removing the PCI-E power leads from the PSU allow the system to power on?

I've really just had this, I was using my PC and it turned off. (This was 2 weeks ago, it's taken that long to go through RMA and replacement parts!)

Sent away PSU, it had failed so replaced.
New PSU in and PC won't turn on, after many testing decided it was the mobo, go to RMA it and accidentally spill coolant onto it, so had to buy another.
Replace mobo, still not working, but getting some activity on the PCB (RGB lights)
Swap out with a spare CPU, again nothing, realise my TitanX is the cause, with it in the mobo, it won't turn on despite cmos clearing and all you get is a tick when you short the power switch pins on the mobo, with the GFX out and onboard graphics plugged in, it boots fine, goes into BIOS+Windows.

Stripped down my Titan X (it's on an Alphacool waterblock) and can't see any signs of damage, fix on the original cooler (air). - plug it in and turn it all on and then smell a strong electrical smell, similar to my dads old model trains when the motor blows up! - while this is happening, back to the original problem of not turning on.

Turn it off and inspect it again, can't see any damage but board boots ok using on board GFX.

Conclude the Titan X has given up the ghost so have stripped it all down and at the moment, I've put it in the mobo that's wall mounted (art!) and have ordered a GTX1080 Hybrid FTW to tide me over (I have a gsync monitor)

I can't RMA the Titan X because it's been underwater and when I put the air cooler back on, I accidentally damaged it. So I know they wouldn't honour it. Gutted.

I'm used to getting around 140 FPS ON Forza horizon 3, will be interesting to see what an overclocked 1080 can deliver in terms of FPS.

I think my PSU failed and took out the board and GFX. Sadly I have no way of proving it but it's been an expensive month.
