pc won't start

hi all,

yesterday i put in my new 5970, with full cover EK waterblock. i had 2 4870's in there before, and all i've done is drain both loops, add in the 5970 and re-filled.

i've primed both loops and leak tested all night, nothing is leaking so i figured time to fire her up. plugged the psu mobo connectors in, hd connectors, lights/fan controller etc etc. the leds on the mobo light up showing power is reaching it, but pressing either the front panel on button or the on button on the mobo and nothing happens...

anyone got an idea as to what could be the problem? i can jump start the psu fine; i've unplugged the graphics card, sound card etc leaving just the mobo plugged in etc, but still no luck.

i'm going to pull all the psu cables out today and re-wire the whole thing in an attempt to see if anything isn't in properly.

any suggestions appreciated :)

cheers

no, i had everything in place, with tissue wrapped around every barb/compression fitting. the only things that were plugged in during the leak test were the 2 pumps

like i say, i took all expansion cards out, haven't tried putting one of the 4870's back in, as i figured if it won't start with nothing in, adding anything else isn't going to change that.

Don't know about your mobo, but mine refused to power up without a graphics card (no beeps or anything) even though the led lit up.

As mentioned before, you might want to try plugging in your 4870 and see if that powers it up or not.

Edit: What mobo are you using?

did you remove all power source from pc and monitor before disconnecting monitor from graphics card.

Iv'e seen this kill a motherboard.

You could try a cmos clear.

what you mean unplug everything from the wall before pulling all the cables out? if so, yeah i did.

so far i've tried:

removing ram
removing all add-in cards
trying to boot with 4870 instead of 5970
re-seating cpu block
re-seating gpu block
unplugging everything and plugging back in
just motherboard connected

and i still can't figure it out :(

i've tried resetting the cmos, yes, not removing the battery tho. i'll give that a shot and see if it does anything different.

all the mobo power leads are attached, and i've made sure they're fully in. the mobo headers for the on/reset/power led/hd led are all connected too, but pressing the front on button or the one on the mobo does absolutely nothing; no lights flick on, no hd's speeding up, nothing... i'm moving more and more to the idea the board is dead (and i've only had this one a few months after killing a previous one :( )

i have the same mobo as you, when I first got it it wouldn't boot, so I took out some mem still nothing so thinking it was dead I decided to trick out the BIOS into beeping for me.

also have you checked your case switch? use the mobo one just to make sure

what do you mean by 'trick out the bios into beeping for me'? :p

yeah i've checked every possible cable inside the box; i've thoroughly made sure nothing is shorting too (although i've had cold cathodes short on the case before and all i got was a puff of smoke where the plastic around the cable melted lol).

i've tried switching on the rig using the mobo power switch pretty much all the time tbh considering i'm inside the box all the time...

thanks for the replies - keep 'em coming guys, i'm all out of ideas!

bah, never watched it due to watching 1 episode (i believe the 1st) which i thought was absolutely gash...

hohum, i was gonna say was it from a tech support helpline :D
