So i came downstairs this morning and hit the power button on my pc and instead of the usual whirring i got nothing. Specs are;

MoBo: GA-EX58 Extreme
CPU: i7 920
RAM: Patriot Viper 6GB DDR3 12800C8 (1600MHz)
PSU: BeQuiet! Dark Power Pro 1200
GPU: nvidia GTX 280

ive tested the powersupply and that powers up fine with nothing connected to it except a case fan, and when everythings connected the motherboard lights come on, but the pc will not start from either the case power button, or the motherboard power button.
The PC was fully working when i turned it off at 9pm yesterday.

Any ideas of what could have happened and what to try next would be greatly appreciated!

Have you tried the usaul booting with one stick of RAM. disconnect all HDD and optiocals. Try taking out the GFX.

At a guess Id say it might be your motherboard.

I'd try starting it with minimal parts connected.

1 stick of RAM, GPU, 1 HDD.

see if it powers up then?

I wouldnt even bother with a HDD. see if it POSTs.

Just a second thought, remove the RAM and check the contacts arent too dusty. I've seen stuff like this when dust gets in and shorts stuff out.

Hi, cheers for the replies, tried booting with bare minimum (1 stick RAM, GPU) still nothing, contacts on RAM look good, no marks or anything. I think it is the motherboard unless the CPU is dead as that would prevent the sytem powering on wouldnt it?

Normally with a CPU issue you'd expect the PSU to power on and the fans to spin up just no POST. From what I understand you are not getting any signs of life so I would say the mother board is not functioning properly.

I know you said you've tested the PSU but you could really do with another computer to try it in just incase.

has that motherboard got an led display thing. Looking at the picture it has one in the bottom left hand corner. What nomber / letters does it say when you try turning your pc on?

dosnt even get to that stage, the motherboard has a built on power switch which glows blue but nothing happens when its pressed. I think its still under warranty ill have to go digging for receipts, its times like this when im glad i kept hold of my e8500 rig!

It might be worth just taking the mobo out the case on the slim chance it is shorting out on something.
