Hi dont know if this is the right place to post. Was using my pc then it cut out then came back for a few seconds and now wont start at all. When i press the power button all the lights come on then it dies straigh away. Is the power supply dead ?

any1 got any idear's ?

I would say your motherboard is shot since it powers on for a short time, if it were the PSU then I would "assume" that it would not even fire up at all and everything would be dead.

If you have a spare PSU kicking about though you could replace it and see if it solves it but I doubt it will for some reason. Unless of course you have upgraded the system recently and the PSU does not have enough power for the hardware.

My old Intel DX38BT used to power up for less than a second on a "dead" PSU, so I certainly wouldn't rule out PSU yet.

I just removed my gfx card sound card second hdd dvd drive and case fans.

pressed the power button and it started to boot then about 30 seconds later cut out then came back and all the psu cables started smoking , so would you say it it the psu ?

ok i did that test with the bit of wire and fan and bothe the power supply and system fan were spinning.

but i just borrowed a psu from a m8 and system booted up with no problems and seems to be runnibg fine so my problem must be the power supply ?.
