Hi

My parents PC won’t switch on. I’m not sure what happened but there was a broadband outage and possibly a power outage earlier. They have a Virgin Media V6 which completely died the same as the PC.

The light at the back of the PC’s power supply comes on but the power LED where the power switch is located doesn’t. When I used to plug the power cable into the back of the PC power supply it made a sound like a click but that doesn’t happen now.

The PC is very old but works perfectly well for what they use it for. Buying a new one is not an option. I was wondering if this might be a power supply issue?

This is the PC:

Any recommendations for a power supply that would work on this PC would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Hi and welcome.

To test the power supply you can normally do the paper clip test , you should see the fan spin on the PSU but I always attach another fan as well.

My parents pc had a lighting strike (well the house did (states)) and it fried their pc. Killed the motherboard I think they took it to a pc shop and that was a diagnosis - I replaced that and it worked again. Not sure how to properly diagnosis it myself but yes check the psu. Worse case scenario you could call around looking to get a diagnosis for the problem if they do that - and ask their price.
