Hey all

So.. Used my computer yesterday morning for a couple of hours, shut it down and then hit the on switch after lunch.. and.. nothing. nada. zip.

Checked the lead (changed for another kettle lead I knew to be working because the monitor it came from still turned on)..

Checked the strip plug.. Checked the plug socket..

Only conclusion is that the psu might be dead?

Any other ideas?

PSU is my trusty 5 year old HX620 (the Seasonic built one - checked http://www.realhardtechx.com/index_archivos/Page447.htm already).

Cheers

That's how I know its not on. No lights on the motherboard, no led fans / fans starting (Antec 900 case, all the fans illuminate blue and make a distinctive amount of noise).

Go to the link you were given, Huddys guide is very good.

Bridging the black and green wires in the 24pin block with a paperclip or whatever will trick the PSU into starting up without the need of a mobo. It's wise to connect a fan or something to the molex as some PSU don't power on without something drawing from it.

I still don't get how D3H mobo can be recommended :/ I wouldn't be surprised if its genial dual BIOS were crashed.
PSU itself is easy to check - by bridging wires and checking voltages. But if you completely check other components (RAM - 1 stick), no graphic card, no other devices plugged in = all with no success, it might be necessary to check another mobo with all components, which is most likely scenario for me. Search for blown caps and dirty voltage regulators BTW, and take out the battery for minute or so.

*delete post* I didn't read the OP properly, sorry.

As everyone above has said really, I don't have anything to add other than to try what they suggest.

**** that. I've got stuff to do. I've followed most of huddy's checks, including bridging wires. But everything else has been stable since purchase 4 months ago - ram (corsair vengeance) gpu (msi 7850 twin frozr) mobo (d3h). Granted, components can fail but I'm not going to faff about removing components I know to be reliable when dollars to donuts its a buggered PSU.

Anyway, all that points to an OcUK purchase - so what's the best ~£100 (less if possible) 600w+ semi/full modular power supply out at the moment? No crap please.. Silverstone / Seasonic / Enermax quality preferred as it'll be in there for 3 years at least :D

rebranded Seasonic I like - had a good (until recently) experience after all -- but what's XFX Customer Service like.. and more to the point will OCuK do 28 day return if its doa, or will I have to do a full RMA through XFX?

xfx psu's work fine on gigabyte boards,im using one myself, they can be picky when it comes to power supplies

How exactly can that be true? I'm not questioning the validity of your statement, I just don't understand :p

I don't know what it is but ive seen plenty issues where a power supply will work on another board yet wont boot up with a gigabyte board

psu's ive seen are certain corsair and ocz,not all but some models

it could be down to the boards power phases or cpu vrm's idk or that they use 2oz copper boards

but ive seen lots of issues over on tweaktown forums
