Okay so today I fitted my Tuniq Tower cooler and all was well, then a spark and a burning smell.
I'm sure the spark came from the direction of the hard drive but I cant be certain.

Anyway, now when trying to power on the system I get nothing, the fans attempt to spin for a split second and then it all just powers down, there are no beeps from the motherboard whatsoever.

Any ideas?

its a corsair hx 520W.

now got it down to having the motherboard connected as well as cpu, ram and graphics card (not got the power connected to that though) and its giving off two beeps, very high pitched and both beeps aren't identical.
to be honest it sound more like a whistling noise than a beep

Was going to list another one but that one was only revised a few weeks ago, bit dodgy to try and look at though makes your eyes go funny with the colors!

So I bought a replacement PSU and still nothing. The fans attempt to spin but nothing happens at all.

Whats the least amount of components I can have connected to find what is at fault?

I know when I dont have the graphics card connected im getting the two beeps, but when it is connected it still just spins the fans for a split second and then powers down, this is with both my old and new PSUs which are both Corsair 520w.

You haven't screwed the mobo directly into the case have you without using stand offs? It sounds like the mobo could be shorting out on the case from what you describe....any chance you could test the mobo, cpu, hsf, 1 ram, gfx outside of the case to see if it is this?

okay so it seemed the surge took out the motherboard, hard drive and dvd drive, i now have to go out and buy another dvd drive so i can re-install windows! :(
