Hello chaps, could do with a bit of advice here as i'm royally stuck.

The problem started about 2 weeks ago when my screen when blank shortly followed by my computer restarting whilst playing a game. It did this a few more times at random intervals 5-10 mins while just on the desktop. I did not get a bsod or a stop code, the screen just goes blank, but sometimes after it had crashed there would be an error in event logs, which referred to a 1000007f error code (not sure on how many zeros) i looked this up and it seems to a rather vague code which is often down to a memory error.
So i restored back a while thinking it was a driver error or software conflict.
This solved the problem for a while, and i had no further trouble whilst gaming.

However, the problem returned yesterday also while playing a game it crashed as before, and kept on doing so, before windows even had a chance to boot, though it would post fine. So i left my computer on overnight running memtest, and after 8 hours there were no errors. So i can take memory corruption out of the equation. I came back from work and just tried switching on as normal, and it would only start up for about 3 seconds, and then just continually reset itself.

So, simple i thought, it must be my graphics card. I swapped it out with a crappy geforce 5200. And then the computer wouldn't boot at all, no lights turn on, no hard drives spin, the fans try and spin, and just kind of judder in place.

Now this is the position i am in now, at the moment i'm thinking it's my psu. And am trying to find a spare one around the house that i can test with.

Any input would be very much appreciated.

Many thanks,
Ganesh.

Specs:
win xp home sp2
Asus a7n8x deluxe
Athlon xp 3000
1.75gb crucial ddr 333
BFG 6800 GS agp
vantec stealth 430w PSU

Also, something i should mention, is that my computer has done the restarting thing when initially switched on before. But only when i've been fiddling around with it, or have unplugged it and moved it. But it has always kicked in and started properly shortly.

must be the psu....

restarting issues usually are because of Memory which you already tested and or power supplies...

I have also known random restarts occur because the memory was in the wrong slots.....however since you changed the gfx card around and nothing is happening like not even the fans spinnings i would also assume its the psu...

remember even if ** mobo is dead the fans would still spin and the LEDs on the board would light up, in most cases....just thought id let you know.....

I think you be fine when you try another psu..

Thanks for the reply, i think you may be right. However, the power led on the motherboard still lights up when i try and turn it on. I don't have a spare psu to test with, so i'll just have to take the plunge and buy a new one me thinks. A seasonic m12 looks pretty good. I'm just hoping that if it is the psu, that it hasn't decided to jihad any other components.

well until you try another psu as you know you wont find out.....

for peace of mind it very rare that cpu will go with it, worst way I would say mobo as well..but first try replacement psu....

the leds would come on as they dont require that much power however the fans like a bit more....

have you tried that pin test in the back of the psu?

long shot: you may wanna try clearing the cmos and try booting with just 1 stick of RAM...
