Finally got a new motherboard and a case.

But when it's all plugged in, nothing happens. If I plug in the PSU that came with the case, motherboard lights pop up, but with my PSU that doesn't happen. We tested my PSU with a paperclip and a fan (found from corsair) and it powered up the fan - so my PSU does work.

I have no idea what to do now..

:/

Are you connecting the 4pin or 8pin on the mobo properly? This happened to me before and that was the culprit, somehow I managed to fit it the other way round LOL

Psu that came with case, we plug in only the 24 pin and there's motherboard beeps and lights, with mine we plug in the 24 pin and 6 (?) pin and nothing works.

Then it's most likely something else.

Another trick you can do is short the two pins that connect to the case power up button, which is basically what the button does. Double check your front panel connectors and see if they are plugged at the right pins.

14:30 mins in.

I'm starting the think my PSU is damaged, even though it powers up outside the case..?

Could just be the cpu power connectors on the psu thats faulty.

The pc wont turn on if the motherboard has no cpu power cable installed.

Thats why it might power up on its own when shortening the pins.

Have a DMM handy?

Tried my psu into my dads pc and it works and powers up. Used 2x4 pins, therefore my PSU must 100% work. However it doesn't in my PC, yet his does.

Anyone else just as confused as me?

Have you tried it with all of the components outside the case?

You could have a short that the Corsair is detecting and the othe power supplies aren't. The fact the you're getting error beeps indicates that something beyond the power supply is probably wrong.

It's been tried with all components out. But it makes no sense how my Corsair wont work in mine with all components out, but my dads PSU (not sure on make) plugs into mine with no components and works.

very odd, I would again do it all again but bare bones state...

cpu/heatsink + fan/ram/gpu and power supply............ all outside of the case on a static matt/flat surface for now.

Sometimes its the cpu back plate shorting it out, ive had to tape the back of it and then stick it on even, also test with no usb devices or keyboard,mouse.... u want a clean start also dont forget once all is connected outside the case tap the screwdriver onto the pwr on switch on the motherboard header to switch on the motherboard (pc) and see if u get a display.

try this and see where u get
