PC won't turn on

Hmmm.. I stripped the computer completely with just the motherboard outside the case.. plugged in my corsair and it turns the lights on the motherboard, but it wouldn't do that when the CPU was in..

CPU fried? Or what o_o

I guess it really is the CPU that is fried, even though it looks perfectly fine.

Plug just the 24 pin and 8pin into motherboard with nothing on it = lights on motherboard turn on.

Put in CPU and heatsink and turn it on = no lights on motherboard

Not Necessarily, it could also be the Motherboard that is faulty, without trying the cpu in another motherboard and another cpu in your motherboard there really is no way to know for sure other than returning the motherboard for RMA.

Yeah, I can't try it with my dads PC because he runs 1155 motherboard and cpu and mine is 1156.

We have talked to the seller about giving back the board and he is fine with that (we ordered it outside of OCUK because the store no longer sells 1156 motherboards) - but if we get a new 1156 motherboard and try this again and it doesn't work that means it'll be the CPU. Then I have to go ahead and buy an older socket CPU again.

Think I should give back this motherboard and order a 1155 motherboard and CPU?

(No idea what I would do with old CPU though... it's an i5 760 which still potentially works)

Motherboard is brand new, so there's no bent pins.. and my cpu has no pins on it

i meant the motherboard cpu socket, its easy to bend pins which will cause mb not to start as will installing memory in the blue instead of white slots

It won't let me select 16th, only 17th.

That statement, and the fact you wanted to order at half 7 in the evening, surely common sense says it wont get processed in time for next day delivery? unlike some e-shops, which i'm sure process orders 24/7, OcUK are only open during office hours :p
