Hello again,

Got a PC that has 256MB of SDRAM but am not sure if it's PC100 or PC133.

I also have an extra stick of 64-128MB of RAM that I KNOW is PC100.

Basicly if the 256MB stick is PC133 would I see a 'performance' drop if I added the 64 or 128MB stick that is PC100 or is PC100/133 just so slow that the difference isn't noticable in every day tasks? (Interent explorer etc)

Cheers very much, Doug.

IIRC All the memory would work at the lower speed PC100 however you would have increased memory so i'd say try it and see how much/if it performs better.

The Ram will run at the slowest rated speed, however many sticks of PC100 would run at PC133 anyway.

The difference in speed between PC100 and PC133 won't be huge in ordinary tasks, you've also got to think of the sort of system that still requires that speed of Ram and it is hardly likely to be blisteringly fast to begin with. You might as well try it out, if it doesn't improve the situation then you can remove it again.

If it's running XP the extra memory will outweigh the lesser speed, if it's 98 or earlier less memory but faster should be better, but don't quote me on that ;)

You'd likely have to set speed in BIOS before installing though, not all motherboards detected memory speeds in those days.
