Am i right in thinking that given all things equal in an E6600, 8800GTS 640MB system i'll only see about 4-5 fps difference if i use 2GB of PC4200 instead of 2GB PC6400 ram?...

seeing how the pc6400 costs about 50% more (about 40-50 quid) than the PC4200 i am finding it hard to justify myself paying more for such pitiful increase in performance....

It depends if you are running a divider. You could seriously bottleneck that GTS :(

Get the 6400s and clock that chip!

Be nice, give the GTS a good home this winter. Give it Team Xtreems :D

Or get some PC5300 and run a E4300 at 333x9 (3GHz). Slack those timings and go higher. Sorted.

Many people who buy this £200 PC6400 want to overclock their Conroe to 3.6GHz, but even if they suceed usually go back down close to 3.2GHz as they dont notice much difference.

Why would he want to swap his E6600 for a E4300!?

If you run it at stock then PC4200 is all you need. If you want to overclock then PC6400 is a must.

To give u an idea I ran pc2-3200 memory at 533Mhz no problem with e6300, but if u want get max overclocks then pc6400 will be necessary.
