Hi,

I have 2GB of PC6400 currently instaleld on my Win7 64bit HTPC. That is just for running HD TV and HD media etc..

I have a spare 4 GB of PC4200 is it worth changing over or not? IE is 4GB of slower ram better than the 2 of the faster?

Its a Quad core AMD Phenom and decent mobo.. any thoughts welcome.

Quantity > Speed when it comes to RAM. That said, 2gb is plenty for a HTPC and unless you're going to sell it, if it's just sitting there you might as well install it.

I have 4GB in my HTPC and that's total overkill

The simple reason it's in there is because it cost £28 about 18months ago

In my bedroom HTPC, which is a 3800x2 / 1GB DDR combo, the amount of RAM is more than adequate

Keep the 2GB

i have 2gb of 6400 with a 6000X2 in my htpc and it runs fine, i agree with the others keep the 6400.

I'd swap it out, 4gb even though it's slower is better than 2gb. Although 2gb will suffice for a HTPC, i doubt it'll make use of the full 4gb.
