Hi All ...

As in the title really. I've still not decided on my build yet, strugaling to make a decision on what will do me for a decent amount of time.

Anyway, if I went budget way, would PC8500/1066 have a serious increase in performance over PC6400/800?

If i went budget, then I'd probably look at 6400, but if spending more, I'd like the Dominator set, but I cant decide if the Dominator would be good in either spec ... ?

It would be used alongside fairly modern kit, either P5Q-E & Q6600/E8500 or PhII kit possibly.

Just wondering and hopefully I'll be able to decide on a build before next bleedin christmas  :D ...

There is a performance advantage, but it's only slight. Go for the 1066 if you can afford it, but don't worry if you can't....CAS4 PC6400 is still good.

you wouldn't need the pc8500 as to get to a decent clock on the e8500 e.g. 4ghz ram would need to run the ram at 425/850 which the pc-6400 would oc too easily

Just take a look at the multipliers of the chip you're intrested in and then decide on what oc you would like to achieve and that will tell you what memory you need. e.g. e8500 (9.5x) want to run at 3.6, which means you'll need to run at 380 fsb means you only need ram capable of 790mhz.
