Thinking along the lines of an 8800GTS 512meg PCI 2.0 card, and wondering if any of the usual sites have done a benchmark (games) comparison between this card on a P35 & X38 board(s).

If i remember right, there wasnt much differance between 8x and 16x over PCIE 1 using 8800gtx's. i dont think bandwith was the main reason for the change, i think it was more to do with how much power more could be passed over PCIE 2.

It was also to do more with the quality of the power provided by the slot...

The only place where I've read that PCIe 2 might have a performance benefit at the moment is at the low end where cards that use system memory for graphics will benefit from a 2x improvement in there memory bandwidth.

As someone has already mentioned benchmarks show that there's virtually no benefit of 16x vs 8x PCIe 1 at the moment .... though I recall when PCIe first came out cards could be throttled back to 2x with only a minimal performance hit ... that certainly isn;t the case now so in a couple of years time PCIe 2 may be a "requirement" to get top performance. Of course, by then the forums will be full of "will this PCIe 3 card work on my PCIe2 mboard" :-)
