I am using a Abit IP35 dark raider motherboard.
I have been looking at the ATI 4850 graphic card it stated that the MB must have PCI-Express 2.0 does any one know if my MB is compatible with PCI-Express 2.0

Yes,

Its a PCI-e 1.1 mobo and will work.

Change that daft font!
