The card is PCI-E x1 anyway, no matter which PCI-E slot you hook it up to, it will still be running in x1 mode.

Is it really worth it? With 3rd party controllers you usually never get the full SATA 3 speeds.
 
It'll fit in a x8 but will be limited to the x1 PCI v2.0 bandwidth of 500MB/s and the Marvel chipsets aren't always a good thing. I looked at these when I went SSD but in the end didn't bother. I remember looking at some benchmarks with these and they ended up slower than using a SATA2 connection on more than a few occasions.
