Are there any benchmarks of any pci-e2.0 cards in pci-e1.1 boards then comparing them when in pci-e2.0 boards.
Wouldnt thought there would be much/if any difference. But was just interested:)

I did read somewhere that actually PCIe 2.0 at the moment may have a much bigger impact at the low end as with things like HyperMemory the ability to move data from the gfx buffers residing in system memory onto the gfx card might be quite significant ... suggestion was that ATi might be quite well placed with the HD2400 in this market.

Those benchmarks show no difference, just a slight improvement in all cards on PCI-e 2.0 boards, irrespective of whether the card itself it PCI-e 2.0 or 1a

Extra bandwidth may not matter now ... remember, when PCIe first came out Toms Hardware ran benchmarks where they resticted a card from 16x down to 8x, 4x, 2x and even 1x ... at that stage there was no real performance change between 16x and 4x with a small drop to 2x and only major loss in performance was with 1x (+ in another test showed that AGP was still the same speed despite all the extra bandwidth PCIe had). Clearly with increased speeds and size of data there's a more of a difference now. Thus PCIe 2.0 may not give much to current gen cards but in a generation or 2 time it'll doubtless be different. However, by that stage everyone will be asking "will this PCIe 3.0 card run on my 2.0 mboard" :-)
