Pci-e 2.0 graphics

I know this might be a stupid question but I need to ask if before I make a mistake, I have a gigabyte M57SLI-S4 motherboard and I just need to know if A new card such as a 4890 would work?
Mobo has 2 PCI-e x16 slots (8x in sli)

Even tho my motherboard doesn't have PCIe 2 support?
The card would still work and run at full x16

PCI-E 2.0 was designed with backwards compatability in mind. I'm currently running an HD4670 in a pre PCI-E 2.0 motherboard, with 16 lanes. The essential difference in the designs is bandwidth and IIRC, some changes in power supply through the PCI port, but it was made so that one could generally use a previous card on a PCI-E 2.0 motherboard or a PCI-2.0 card on a previous motherboard.

So in summary, you should be fine, and it will run at x16 on your motherboard.

I,m using a single slot pci-e board,1 x 16,just finished installing my gpu(thx OCUK on the quick turnaround on the rma....http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18026391
Running sweetly as far as i,m concerned,just need to save for a new mobo/ram/cpu combo later in the year.
