I have held of from upgrading since my 3700+ and 7800 gtx has been fine until all this crysis and next gen lark. But now these games are being released i figure i should buy a quad core 8800gt and all that. But i fear atthis point in time is not a good time to buy as PCI-E 2 motherboards will start to be released and ddr3 will become more affordable. Dunno what to do!!! :(

I guess my main fear now is that if i buy an X38 board, will nvidia release motherboards that are far better. I know these x38 motherboards are crossfire ones. Can you still run a single nvidia card ok of it?

I see it as having 3 choices.

Option 1

Buy nothing and wait till next year for updates such as Intel's penryn, nvidia's 8900 and their chipset and more DDR3 modules.

cons - Cant play the letest stuff now with most of my gifts going to be games this sucks.

Option 2

Buy a cheaper DDR2 680i system.

Pros - Cheap Cons - No future proofing

Option 3

Buy X38, 8800GT and DDR3 memory.

Pros - Penryn compatibility, PCI-E 2.0, DDR 3 Cons - Expensive more?
