PCI-E Bandwidths with Asus Ares II

This got my head a little rattled as I am not the most up to date with components these days.

Since the Ares II is dual gpu but on a single card does the card run at x16 or each gpu at x8 even thou it is using a single slot?

One of the advantages of running 4 GPUs on two dual cards, you can run the lot @PCI-E 3.0 x16 on X79.
