Hi there,
I am having problems with the power going to my gfx card and was wondering if anyone knew how to check the voltage going through them with an ammeter.

basicaly what pins do i contact of the 6?
and what voltage should i be looking for?

cheers for anyhelp

im using a corsair 520,

The problem is that when the system goes to boot up i get a few lights flashing on the gfx card just where the pci-e's go in, and the boot keeps restarting.

At first i thought it was the gfx card so i rma it,
they found fault with it and sent me a new one but the new card is doing the exact same thing.

So im assuming it is the psu but wound be nice to check before i go and splash out on a new one.

May i ask what motherboard you using?

Seems odd that another one sent to you can be exactly the same.

Same sort of thing happened to me once when i was overclocking, but i reset my BIOS to default and all is fine

Have you been overlclocking anything? CPU etc?

PSU could also be a potential problem as well but lets see.

Yeh spec in sig,
tryed overclocking my first 4870 but it would always crash in games even with a decent cooler running at 40C, witch i thought was odd.

Yeh i thought it was strange too but the card ran fine(when not overclocked) for months.

if its possable it is the mobo i will try it in the second pci-e lane.

Also if its of any use as information i tryed swaping both 6 pin power cables with moldex to 6 pin converters and the same problem acured.

Changing the power cables is not going to make any difference. You say your GPU is overclocked? This could be a potential problem, try underclocking it a bit then try a game.

Also swapping it to another PCI-E lane might not also be successfull since thats a slave port for SLI/Crossfire ect.

Thanks
