PCI-E Slot Running at Only 2x :(

Hello,

Im using the lower slot in my SLI-D and its only running at 2x in single card mode, is it not possible to use this slot at the full 16x?

I have a Zalman Heatsink on my Northbridge so carn't use the top one (without modding etc). I didn't seem to notice it so much with the X800GTO i had installed (maybe 5% slower than stock) but i have installed a 7900GT today and its only getting 6,900 in 3D Mark 2005 which i would say is a fair amount slower than it should? I would have expected more 8k?

set the board using the jumpers, to sli mode.

that will enable 8x speed, which is more than fast enough.
