Hello, could anyone tell me if there is any drawback to using a graphics card in PCI-E slot 2 instead of 1. I only ask cause when i put my pc back together last i got them the wrong way around and ended up with the slower card in slot 1.

If i disabled crossfire to run a single card benchmark and used the second card would it run as fast and produce the same results as it would in slot 1?

cheers.

If both slots are occupied, even with crossfire disabled, both slots will be running at x8, so no it makes no difference to performance, even if you physically removed one card and put the faster card in the first slot so it ran at x16, the actual difference in performance would only be about 1%

I have SLI 970s running at x8/x8 PCIe 2.0 for cooling purposes (bigger gap) and there is barely any difference from x16/x16

PCIe 3.0 x8 (=2.0 x16) is more than okay for 7950s

When you run crossfire the software runs the cards are the same speed, the slower cards speed unless you go and change it.

I am assuming your step is set to PCI-e 3, so ever at 8x you should notice 0 difference, in practice this is not always the case the only way to tell is to test.
