PCI-E to Molex connector

Hi,

Has anyone seen PCI-E to Molex connectors for sale or have any idea what the spec / name of the PCI-E power connector is?

I've seen plenty of twin molex to PCI-E just nothing the other way around. I can make some up if I can get PCI-E sockets.

Reason I'd like some is that I have 2 Gigabyte 7900GT's which have molex rather than PCI-E power connectors. I've run to cables from my Corsair 620 but that leaves a lot of loose ends.

I'd like to v mod them to 1.4v as they'll do 590 / 800 at stock volts so should hit GTX speeds with the mod. They are both Zalman cooled.

Trouble is I'm not sure that the molex connector will provide enough power for the cards once OC'd.

Regards

Never seen them before, which is suprising because quite a few people would like them, even my friend wanted one so he would have to split of the molex line twice and have cables hanging across the PC but alas we couldn't find one and he has to use the molex splitter.

One reason why you might not be able to get them is that the PCI-E is basically 12v and ground, and molex has 12v, 5v and ground and you possibly cannot convert down from 12v to 5v? That's the only reason I can think of why these cables aren't widespread.

Hi,

Thanks for the input.

Good point re: not having a +5v I'll have to look at the cards to see if it's used.

As for the molex's ... I have plenty , the two spare lines I connected to the Corsair have 3x each with 2 going spare. Just a little untidy!

My main concern is that the PCI-E cable uses 3 cables to transmit 75w max and as the cable used seems identical to the cable used for the molex I'm unsure how much current will be consumed by each card through a single cable once the cards are futher overclocked. It's the same core as the 7900GTX so could cause stability or cable / plug heating issues.

I'll have to look what a molex is rated at.

Thanks
